What to Expect in First Steps
Birth – 23 months

What to Bring

When packing a diaper bag for your child, please include the following items:

1. Two or three diapers
2. Pacifier or other item your child might need for security
3. A complete change of clothes should your child require that
4. A bottle of milk, juice or formula

Please label ALL personal items with your child’s first and last name. Please have a diaper bag tag on your child’s bag. We have tags available if you need them.

Your Child’s Health

We operate a well-baby program. For the protection of our ministry we cannot accept a child with a runny nose, fresh cold (four days or less), fever, rash, persistent cough, diarrhea, or any other signs of illness. We request that you not place your child in the program while they are at risk of exposing other children. Thank you in advance for helping us keep First Steps a healthy place!

When you Arrive at Your Child’s Room

A leader will meet you at the door to receive your child and any necessary items. Please check-in with your child’s teacher and note any information that will help with caring for your child, such as feeding times, sleeping times, allergies and special needs. There is a white board in the nursery room where you can note any instructions.

At the time of check-in, please place your child’s nametag on their back. You will be given a pager. If we need you to return to your child’s classroom, you will be paged. The pager will vibrate, so please hold or wear it at all times. Please return your pager when picking up your child. A child will not be released to a parent without presentation of the assigned pager.

Snacks

Snacks are provided when children graduate to the 1 yr old room. Snacks consist of Cheerios or Goldfish and apple juice. If your child has an allergy, please inform the leader when you check your child in.

Saying Goodbye

After your child is checked in, simply say a quick goodbye and leave for the worship service or your Connection Group. As you know, it is normal for little ones to cry when leaving a parent. This does not last long, and separation gets easier over time. Our leaders will help your child make the transition. If your child cries for more than 10 minutes, we will page you.

Checking on Your Child

Feel free to check on your little one at any time. However, we ask that you do so discretely, trying not to let your child see you.

Pickup Procedures

Your child’s leader will expect the same person to drop off and pick up your child unless special instructions are given at check-in. Please make sure you have all your child’s possessions before you leave. As an aspect of security, your child’s pager has to be returned in order to pick up your child.

Nursing Mother’s Room

There is a nursing mother’s room located directly across from the newborn room.
